Lazzarini: Around 360 staff members martyred while on duty
New York, August 19 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stated that UNRWA staff have paid a heavy price since the start of the war.
Lazzarini emphasized that since the beginning of the war, the agency’s staff have suffered heavy losses, noting that around 360 staff members, including those on duty, have been martyred.
He added that hundreds were injured, about 50 staff members were arrested and detained, and said:
“Some were tortured before being released. However, despite the hell our staff endure every day, they do not give up. I also thank the UNRWA teams across the region who continue to provide services, especially in education and primary healthcare, despite tremendous challenges and all odds.”
